An article in the 12/6/1985 edition of the Portland Evening Express reported that SBC Management had purchased the theater from Joel Tranum. Hoyt’s later purchased SBC and Cinema Centers in 1987.

Due to an odd error an ad for the Patriot Cinemas Nickleodeon 6 in Portland ME ran on the entertainment page of yesterday’s Quincy Patriot Ledger in Quincy MA (just south of Boston). The ad did not mention Portland ME, so I could not figure it out and had to go to the Patriot Cinemas website. What a waste of advertising funds!

The Patriot Cinemas Nickleodeon 6 in Portland is part of the Opera in Cinema network which presents opera and ballet performances from various opera houses in Europe. The other 2 cinemas in Maine which are part of the network are the Criterion in Bar Harbor and the Frontier in Brunswick.
