If you drove in and parked your car there alongside a speaker on June 1st of 1950, you and your companions could have seen “Task Force” playing with “Headin' for Heaven.”
Awwwwww another great place i ran the Projetors in this place in the late 80’s
I think this was actually on Pulaski Boulevard, which is NOT MA-126. If you google 584 Pulaski Boulevard, and look to your right, you’ll see a drive-in screen standing in what was the lot. It’s now a dirt mound-filled dump.
O.K.
Item in Boxoffice Magazine, March 18, 1950:
“High winds of near hurricane velocity recently toppled a 50-foot cement block screen at the Bellingham Drive-In, just over the Woonsocket [RI] city line. The screen carried down all the telephone wires on the south side of the highway, putting hundreds of phones out of service. Repairs will me made in time for the open airer to operate on schedule this spring.”
An item in the January 17, 1942 issue of Boxoffice magazine stated:
Parker into Chepachet, RI.
BOSTON – Fred Parker, operator of the Apollo in Boston, and owner of the Bellingham Auto Theatre in that town, has taken over the Chepachet in Chepachet, Rhode Island. Parker, who has acquired the former Grange Hall, has extensively renovated the house.
The Theatre Historical Society on-line archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Bellingham Auto Drive-In. It’s Card # 602. But the form was not filled out, so there is no information, only an undated photo. Most of the undated photos on the MGM cards were taken sometime between 1945 and 1950.
I went there as a child. I remember seeing FOR PETE’S SAKE with Barbra Streisand.
Theater has now been redeveloped into housing
