I worked here on-and-off between 1984 and 1988. I was a projectionist here, after being trained at a different Storey theatre. I see one of my manager’s, Mr. Sweeney, has commented on here. Good to see you, Mr. Sweeney. I also remember Betty fondly. She was a very nice lady. She also worked at another Storey theatre with me before coming to Shannon 7.
Some of the movies I remember showing here include Purple Rain, Dead Poet’s Society, Breakfast Club, Fletch, and War of the Roses, which had a cartoon at the beginning. That was the first time I ever saw the Simpsons.
This opened on August 1st, 1980. Grand opening ad in the photo section.

I was the General Manager in the late 80’s to about 92 or so. I loved this theatre. I loved the fact that it had an office on the ground floor. Also, I had a great staff and two excellent projectionist. Also, I worked with a lady who was an old time employee of Storey Theatres…Betty….she was so kind and a joy to work with. God rest her soul….she passed a few years ago.
This was another nice theater I attended in my younger life. I was there on its opening night and saw “Last Flight of Noah’s Ark” and the original animated “101 Dalmations.”
Each auditorium has excellent sound. As the theater expanded, it was still kept up.
I think the last movie I saw there was Arnold Swartzenager’s (excuse the spelling) “Eraser,” a perfectly awful movie. Sad ending to a once nice theater.
I was one of the final managers at this location. It had a few really large auditoriums, but unfortunately it was very poorly maintained. Once other theatres went up in the area, this one literally died a quick death. The mall across the way is in a sad state itself as well.
Shannon 7 opened in 1980 ( so did Shannon Mall) as Shannon 4. I grew up going to this theather, In fact I went there the first week it was opened ( I saw the Last flight of Noah’s Arc). It added 3 more screens in the late 80s. The last movie I saw there was Halloween H2O. It died in ‘98. It was borded up until recently when it became a church. Ten years ago, Shannon Mall had two seperate theathers (Shannon 8). Now both are closed down. Shannon Mall is on life support. Half of the Mall is closed and the rest is like a strip mall. Was booming in the 80s now I dont know how it is surviving.
