This Drive-In was located on the corner of US 1 and Scribner Ave., between exits 13 & 14 of I-95. It closed in the late 70’s-early 80’s and was demolished for a shopping center. On the side of the Abbot’s Custard shop building there is a mural paying homage to the Drive-In. At one point the theatre was operated by the SBC chain.
I would there for a while in the early fifties. It was being run by Lockwood & Gordon Theater, Boston, Mass. (Bought out by SBC) .I do remember a grandstand where folks could walk in and be seated.
Also called the Starlite Drive-In and known as the Starlite Theatre according to Drive-Ins.com. They say it opened in 1950 and was demolished in 1983.
My info from the City Directory says otherwise. It was first listed in 1952 as the Norwalk Drive-In Theatre on Connecticut Avenue (US 1) and then in 1963 the address was known as 330 Connecticut Avenue. In 1968 its owners are listed as Lockwood and Gordon as state above with Jack Hynes as manager. Last listed in 1979.
“SHAFT” played there with a second feature a Western of all things called “5 Man Army'.Crazy booking.
Opened on May 24, 1951, closed in the late 70’s.
Higher quality aerial posted.
