Odeon mezzanine opening 20 Apr 1990, Fri Evening Standard (London, Greater London, England) Newspapers.com
These screens reopened on Friday as Screens 2-5, and merged with the main cinema.
The photo uploaded below by CF100 of one of the old auditoria shows just a ‘Flat’ screen.
Now that it is being reconfigured and refurbished to Odeon Luxe standard, I hope all 4 new auditoria will be given wall-to-wall Scope screens. Surely this has to be essential for London’s most prestigious cinema.
Lionel: The photo uploaded by “Ally H.” to Yelp that you mention is of an auditorium over at the Vue West End, prior to its 2017 total refurbishment. The old grey pleated fabric (presumably Soundfold) sidewalls can be seen, as well as the amber “festoon” curtain above the screen.

(At least, I think it is—I haven’t been there in a very long time indeed!)
Now 182 seats
screen 2 35 seats
screen 3 42 seats
screen 4 41 seats
screen 5 54 seats
I only think of movies as “letterboxed” if they are not matted/masked, in which case I won’t return!
@PhilipWW Coming late, but this link should answer your question: https://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/odeon-cinemas-london-3
If you scroll down, you’ll see a review from user AllyH from 2011 with picture showing an 1.85 screen. Considering that theses screens were built above a narrow alley separating buildings, I guess that they’re all identical.
Although the auditoria are small, are all the screens full 2.39 Scope size … or are some (or all) just 1.85 which necessitates Scope movies being shown letterboxed ?
The Odeon Studios were re-opened on 30th November 2012.
ODEON STUDIOS
Very boxy cinemas and as stated above they do have that screening room feel about them which is rather nice. Never very busy as they tend to stretch out first run movies here way after the masses have seen them. Sat here many times with just me in the room. Way better than the awful Panton Street Odeon complex. Since Ken mentioned the Odeon Wardour Street back in March ‘05 they have now closed for good, the entire block is being demolished and a new hotel built. I cant decide which was worse Panton St or Wardour St- OK -both!
The Odeon Mezzanine can be seen on the right of the main Odeon Leicester Square cinema here:

The seats are wide, the raking isn’t bad and overall they have a bit of a screening room feel and often your last chance to catch something you want to see…Have caught The Freshman and Rushmore here
Films generally open at the Odeon Mezzanine and are shown as part of general release and con-current with other multiplex cinemas. Occasionally one of the screens will take a movie when it has finished its run in the main Odeon located next door.
Art house movies are played in the Odeon’s, Panton Street and Wardour Street (both located a stone’s throw away off Leicester Square). Both these cinemas have 4 screens each, which are double the size of the Odeon Mezzanine screens!
Very small seating, are these art cinemas?
