Closed on March 21, 1976 and unexpectedly demolished on December 21, 1976 after one of the building’s side walls crashed into the center roof of the neighboring Eleanor Shop. No injuries were reported.
Closed by Davis Theatres in 1976 after expanding their Northside Cinemas.

From 1943 a postcard view of downtown Dothan along with Martin Theater.
they love tearing down theatres for parking lots.
Thanks dzh.
It is a common misconception that the theater was torn down in 2008. That was actually the old BC Moore’s Department Store which had been used by the Souteast Alabama Community Theater for the last 25 years. Because they built a Marquis to announce upcoming plays many began to believe this was the old Martin Theater. The theater was actually next to the Houston County Court House and was torn down to provide added parking in the early 1970’s.
Why didn’t they build a protective shell OVER the theater to construct layered parking.
Now that makes good, common sense and would have saved another historic theater… just what they did for the old and huge Fox (now Copely Hall) in San Diego, CA.
The Martin is visible on the left in this postcard, circa 1940s:
