This multiplex was located off Greenback Lane between Dewey Drive and San Juan Drive. The UA The Movies was opened on December 7, 1986. This theatre played first-run movies and was later renamed Greenback 6 Theatre. It was undercut by the proposed expansion of the Century multiplex at the corner of Greenback Lane and Garfield Avenue a few years ago. The theatre closed in 2001 and a Sam’s Club now occupies the site.

The United Artists Greenback 6 was designed by San Francisco architect Daniel T. Uesugi, and was one of a number of six-screen projects he designed for UA in the 1980s. There were others in Pasadena, San Diego, and Chula Vista.

Great theater! Die Hard 2 in THX, Terminator 2 in 70mm THX, Star Wars Special Editions, Batman Returns, Dances With Wolves. Braveheart test screening with Mel Gibson in the theater. Wasn’t going to win any awards for the design (and the location was terrible), but once the movie started in Auditorium 5, it was amazing.
“The UA” as my family called it and its rival, the Cinedome, were the only local multiplexes when I grew up in south Placer County. I saw lots of now-classic movies at the UA until two theaters opened in Roseville in the late 90’s.
