Opened December 18, 1998, the Northstar 14 is a well appointed megaplex operated by Wallace Theatres under the Hollywood banner. The auditoriums range in size from 200 seats to around 500.
The exterior of the building is done in an array of bright colors ranging from fire engine red to canary yellow.
The theatre is very well appointed and comfortable with great sight lines in the auditoriums. The theatre shows first fun attractions with a top admission price of $7.50.
It was taken over by Regal in April 2013.

According to this article, seven screening rooms are now capable of digital projection, and four of these are equipped for 3-D: http://www.koamtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11707680
I saw one movie here: Doogal (the American version of The Magic Roundabout) back in 2006. The auditorium and screen was big and the picture was good if a little blurry but a good experience overall. Also, they had a good game room on a separate floor with several games (I played the 1991 Simpsons arcade game there).
Nobody in Joplin seems to know when did this open.
Mike,
I regret that I have not been able to find any information on the opening of either the AMC Joplin 6 or the Northstar 14 theatres. We have extensive files concerning the historic theatres of Joplin, but none on these more recent theatres. I did some internet research and combed through our newspaper databases as well and again, came up with nothing. I can say anecdotally that Northstar 14 opened for the holiday season in either 1998 or 1999 because I worked there at the time of the opening. I’m fairly certain it was 1999 but I can’t remember if I was 16 or 17, hence the hesitation. I did find a Joplin Globe article from May 2008 discussing the closing of Cinema 6, but could not find information in regards to the opening.

This theater was the site of another movie theater shooting. Saw it on the news this morning on the today show. Very tragic.
9 years later, I posted the full-page grand opening ad.
