Brandt Theatre 1954

The Brandt Theatre is shown as open and seating 525 in the 1950 Film Daily Yearbook. It was operated by the Bernstein Theaters chain. The theatre stood on E. 154th Street, between Lexington Avenue and Turlington Avenue. The theatre, like the rest of Harvey’s former movie houses, has since been torn down.

I ran across a 1941 Boxoffice Magazine article that reported the BRANDT Theatre was to open in October 1941 with 750 seats and that land owner/developer William Brandt and promoter Nat Bernstein of Hammond, Indiana were the prime motivators.

Saw a few movies at the Brandt theater some in time the late ‘50s but it never seemed to be as popular as the Harvey Theater. My recollection is the theater closed some time in the '60’s,

Imagine what a thriving town Harvey was at one time with three movie houses within a block of each other. What a shame this town is today.

What happened to Harvey. Heard the crime rate is high now. Too bad.
