According to an ad in the BLUE ISLAND SUN STANDARD on Sept 27th, 1951, the ABC Outdoor Theatre was located at “14th and Western”. They were showing THAT’S MY BOY and IRON MAN. Next features were ON MOONLIGHT BAY andCATTLE DRIVE"
I went to this outdoor theater a few times with my parents in the late ‘50s, and remember its location being just west of Western Avenue and south of 147th street near Posen. The single screen was situated on the east end of the lot, facing west. It closed in the early '60s and was immediately demolished (Status s/b “Demolished”)as the land was acquired to build Interstate 57.
This one was taken out by a freeway! The Hwy 57/83 junction was where it stood on the NW part of the freeway aerial. The correct city and zip is Posen, IL 60469.
Thank you for this info. My parents always talk about this drive-in and outside of an aerial photo I saw years ago this is the first actual photos of the theater. I know it was closed because of I-57 which is a shame.
Correction to address above:
