Hackensack Drive-In

The Hackensack Drive-In opened June 26, 1963 with “King Kong vs Godzilla” & “The Traitors”. It was closed on September 27, 1981 with Burt Reynolds in “The Cannonball Run” & Jane Fonda in “Nine to Five”.

A flea market operated on the site for two more years and it was immediately demolished when the flea market closed.

Replaced by 324-unit Waterside Village complex of one- and two-bedroom apartments, built in 1985, the theatre was located (for mapping purposes) at 99 Valley Road, Little Ferry, NJ 07643. Status should be changed to “Closed/Demolished” and function should be changed to “Housing.” I’ve seen reference to 1960 as the year of opening but I’m not certain of the accuracy of this information.

Here is a 1979 aerial view. By 1987, the next view available, the housing complex mentioned above has replaced the drive-in.

Last showtimes were September 27, 1981 with “Cannonball Run” and “Nine to Five.” The venue continued for two more years as a flea market.

It was immediately demolished after its two-year Flea Market stint and Waterside Village apartments were built on the site.
