AMC Dine-In Northbrook Court 14

Northbrook Court 14 is located in the Northbrook Court shopping mall in Northbrook, Illinois. The two level fourteen screen theater opened November 22, 1996. It was built by General Cinema. “Star Trek: First Contact”, “Space Jam” and “Jingle All the Way” were among the first movies shown there. All 14 auditoriums featured stadium seating, and two auditoriums featured THX sound.

The theater has two concession stands, a coffee bar and a birthday party room. The theater ironically led to the demise of the nearby General Cinema Deerbrook 4. It changed to AMC in April of 2002 when the company was bought out.

My recent visit to the Northbrook Court 14 was great. Five years since the demise of the Deerbrook Cinema, even the Northbrook Court also shows some art movies (the Landmark Renaissance Place was also responsibile for the demise of the Deerbrook also). Screens 1-6 is on the bottom level while screens 7-14 are on the top. Saw “Shopgirl there. I will visit again.

I worked at this theater from 11/96 to 6/00 when it was still a General Cinema.

The theater opened up 16 years today, on 11.22.96 after running for a week as a trial run, screening films for free from the past summer. Can’t believe it’s been 16 years already.

The Northbrook court 14 was one of many projects designed for General Cinema by Cambridge architectural firm Robert Luchetti Associates.
