AMC Springs North 4

The AMC Indian Springs Theaters was in two spots inside Indian Springs Mall and had a total of ten screens under one roof with four on the north side and six on the south. This theater complex was probably one of the first to have at least ten screens under one roof.

The older of the two sides is the AMC Indian Springs North 4 which opened on May 19, 1971 with the mall, its has four hallway style theaters with 300-400 seats in each theater. From 1971-1980 its was a first run theater. It became a dollar house when AMC Springs South 6 opened on July 24, 1981 and remained a dollar house until it closed in November 1991. However during the Christmas shopping season, it was common to see AMC use one of the Springs North 4 screens for a first run family film to complement the larger amount of first run movies released during this period of the year that just six screens on the south side of the mall can’t handle.

The movie theater remained standing and all the equipment was still there in all ten screens inside the mall and it is up for rent by the Indian Springs Mall. The Mall was demolished in Spring of 2019.

Saw the Karate Kid at Springs North in early summer of 84 when it premiered. Pretty sure it didnt become a dollar house for a couple more years.

‘North’ side I remember seeing Batman Returns (1992) here. Remember going to the big arcade (Fun Factory?) here, too.

‘South’ side I saw Revenge Of The Nerds II: Nerds In Paradise (1987) and Repossessed (1990). There was a Orange Julius stand down there, too.

The AMC Springs North 4 was closed at the end of a 20-year lease in November of 1991 as a sub-run discount house. However, AMC carried on with the renamed Springs South turned AMC Indian Springs 6 elsewhere in the mall until opting out at its 15-year leasing point on May 30, 1996.

Startime Cinema Inc. reopened the AMC Indian Springs South 6 on August 30, 1996 as Super Saver Cinema 6 after AMC Movie Theaters Inc. let its lease expire. The sub-run discount theatre closed a year later on September 28, 1997.

The 6-screen should likely have its own CinemaTreasure entry.
