The Crest opened too late to be included in the 1963 motion picture almanac, which astute readers will surmise that I have just purchased ($5 used). Bakersfield drive-ins in the 1963 edition were the 99, So. Chester, Edison and Terrace.
Currently enjoying retirement as the Bakersfield RV Resort.
May 29th, 1963 grand opening ad uploaded here.
The CREST was such a part of my youth that I cannot think about those years without recalling all the great movies at the drive-in. RIP, old friend.
Does anyone know the day and the month the Crest drive in closed and what was the last movie shown there?
Opened with “Black Zoo” and “Play it cool”. Screen 2 opened in 1977.
Now Bakersfield KOA Resort (screen 2) and Crest Bar & Grill (screen 1) both on Wible Rd.
Please update.
