On Jan. 19, 2024, there was a small fire behind the dormant Garberville. According to a story in Redheaded Blackbelt, firefighters ran a hose through the theater to quickly extinguish the fire.
The article said that the building had been sold after the theater closed in 2016. Renovation efforts since then have been intermittent. “An unidentified man at the scene stated that the theatre would reopen in approximately 18 months.”
I found a reference that the building dates back to 1924 when it was the garage for the original theatre which was across the street. The link for the detail is not operational. A garage for a theatre?
According to a posting on facebook back in 2017, a portion of the roof collapsed causing damage to equipment and was deemed inhabitable because of mold buildup.

It appears they had an unsuccessful Go Fund Me campaign 2 years ago. Not much else about it on searches.

The Garberville Theatre was another victim of the cost of converting to digital projection. A 2014 gofundme attempt at funding the conversion raised only $1,061 dollars of the owners' $70,000 goal. The house has apparently been closed for quite some time, but I haven’t been able to find any reports giving the date.
This has appear to close down since its website has been disconnected and nothing on its facebook page.

The Garberville Theatre opened on August 2nd, 1935, in a converted garage, according to the extensive and detailed history of the house on this web page. There are several photographs, as well as scans of vintage ads, and items about the theater from various publications.

The Garberville Theatre re-opened on January 12, 1952, following a complete remodeling and redecoration, which was handled by San Francisco theater designer Gale Santocono. The re-opening was noted in the January 26, 1952, issue of Boxoffice Magazine.
