Archie Theatre

The 700-seat Archie Theatre was opened on July 1, 1948 with Robert Young in “Sitting Pretty”. This theatre has a red and white marquee with two pylons at either end. The property was being used for storage as of 2001. Local citizen Jimmy Rane was honored in 2000 for his work in renovating the theatre, but nothing seems to have happened since then.

The Archie Theatre launched July 1, 1948 with Robert Young and Maureen O'Hara in “Sitting Pretty.” The former Abbey Theatre / New Theatre closed June 28, 1948 as a result. Seating was listed at 400 on the main floor and 300 in the balcony for African American customers. Bessie Walker opened the theatre and she died in June of 1964.

Thanks @dallasmovietheaters for this info. Can you help me get any more information about Bessie Walker? I plan to visit Abbeville soon and would like to know more.
