Opened as the Burton Heights Theatre on May 26, 1914. It later became the Burton Theatre, operating into the 1950’s. On July 2, 1968 it was renamed Burton Capri Theatre, an adult theatre which had its business transferred from the fire damaged Capri #1 Theatre (former Uptown Theatre which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Burton Capri Theatre opening movies were “Vicious Blondes” & “Odd Taste”. It was closed in 1988.

There is a Burton Theatre listed at 2026-28 Division Avenue South in the 1916 Grand Rapids City Directory.
When I was a kid, I spent most Saturday afternoons at either the Burton Theater or at the 4 Star. The Burton was operated by the brother of the gentleman who owned and operated the Creston in the north end.
Quite a bargain – two features, a two reeler, six or seven cartoons, a serial, a newsreel all for 9 cents!
