Texas Theatre

The Colonial Theatre served as a movie venue for downtown Bay City from at least 1929. It was located just one block south of the Matagorda County Courthouse. By 1943 it had been renamed Texas Theatre and was operated by Long Theaters. It was still open in 1957. The building still stands, and a church congregation now meets there.

The Texas Theatre was built in 1927, and it was originally named the Colonial Theater. Gary Cooper’s film “Betrayal” played here.

Hi, These are great photos. Does anybody have photos of the murals in the foyer? There were two, showing images of historic Matagorda county. Please upload if you got ‘em!!!
