One of the original AMC theatres, the Gage 4 was built in the 1960’s. The theater still stands today with its small screens, box-like auditoriums, and its lack of imaginative decor. The Gage 4 thrilled movie goers in the Kansas capitol city when the Governor could not. A fifth screen was added in November 1971.
The theater has closed and now functions as a club and eating establishment.

Tour of Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas Theatres in 2004
From June 26 through July 1, 2004 the Theatre Historical Society of America will tour a number of theatres in Kansas City Missouri and surrounding areas, including theatres in Lamar, Joplin, Richmond, St. Joseph and Springfield, MO, as well as Miami, OK, and these cities in Kansas: Leavenworth, Kansas City, Emporia, El Dorado, Augusta, Wichita, Hutchinson, McPherson, Salina, Concordia, and Topeka. Bring your camera and lots of film, for it is usually difficult or impossible to enter these theatres for photos, and some of them will surely not be with us in the years to come.

The Gage 4 Theatres opened on October 17, 1969 and was advertised as “Kansas' First Four Screen Complex.” Opening attractions were “Tru Grit” “The Learning Tree” “Fun-tage” and “Romeo Juliet” At some point prior to November 1971 a fifth screen was added. The building is still in use today as a night club.
The Gage 4 opened the “Screening Room” on Christmas Day, 1970 with 66 seats and using 16mm projection. Grand opening ads posted. It became Gage 5 in 1971 and the fifth screen closed in 1974.
