The Roxy Theatre was opened around 1936. Polson Theatres took over operations of the Roxy Theatre in 2000 when the original owner passed away. The theatre got a remodel and was renamed the Roxy Cinema. The Roxy Cinema was closed on January 17, 2020.

Good grief! I remember being bored in Shelby (I think that’s a redundancy) in 1995 or ‘96 and going to see “Babe” at a Saturday matinee full of kids. Free popcorn and about 40 degrees below zero when we walked outside. I do remember well the hospitality of the (then) owners. It was a pleasant experience, but I’ve been fortunate enough to have not paid Shelby another visit. Brrrrrr!

The correct address of the Roxy Cinema is 231 Main Street.
The official web site is now at this link.
The Roxy opened a bit earlier than 1939. There is a photo of the recently-built house on this page of Boxoffice, November 14, 1936.
The theatre was seen briefly in “Billy Connolly Tracks across America.
