Roxy Cinema

The Roxy Theatre was opened on November 10, 1935 with Claudette Colbert in “She Married Her Boss”. Polson Theatres took over operations of the Roxy Theatre in 2000 when the original owner passed away. The theatre got a remodel and was renamed the Roxy Cinema. The Roxy Cinema was closed on January 17, 2020. It was undergoing restoration in April 2025. It was reopened as the Roxy Theater on September 26, 2025 with Margaret Qualley in “Honey Don’t!”.

Good grief! I remember being bored in Shelby (I think that’s a redundancy) in 1995 or ‘96 and going to see “Babe” at a Saturday matinee full of kids. Free popcorn and about 40 degrees below zero when we walked outside. I do remember well the hospitality of the (then) owners. It was a pleasant experience, but I’ve been fortunate enough to have not paid Shelby another visit. Brrrrrr!

The Roxy opened a bit earlier than 1939. There is a photo of the recently-built house on this page of Boxoffice, November 14, 1936.

https://www.shelbyroxymt.com/ The web site indicates the theater is open. I’m posting this on 29 Sep 2025 and the web site listed showings this past weekend of “Honey Don’t”.

Opened on November 10, 1935 with Claudette Colbert in “She Married Her Boss” along with a Fox Movietone Newsreel and a few unnamed shorts (unlisted on grand opening advertisement, but mentioned on article).
