Dickinson Theatres opened the Mall Stadium 7 located in the Conestoga Mall on April 2, 2004. This was one of two theatres located in the mall, the other is the Carmike Conestoga 4. The Mall Stadium 7 was the newer theatre and featured all stadium seating, online ticketing, digital sound, seats with cup holders and many other amenities. The theatre played first run attractions. Later operated by Starplex Cinemas. Taken over by AMC December 16, 2015. It was closed on May 1, 2023 and was demolished in early-June 2023.

AMC changed their listing to “permanently closed” on May 31, 2023 and the theatre was demolished in early June.

Here’s a little wise fact: This theater when it first planned in June 2003 originally announced a possible early-2004 opening as an eight-screener. However, it was unclear if that ever happened.

This has to be the largest city in America with no full-time cinema.

This does raise the question, as to what is the largest U.S. city without a full-time cinema? Menefee, California has to be a contender, with a population of just over 100,000 and no operating cinema. However, unlike Grand Island, there are several within a reasonable driving distance.

Grand Island only has a population of 42,000 people. There are way larger cities with no cinema.

Plus Grand Island still had the Grand Theatre, so it does have a cinema.

I live in Connecticut. The largest city on our state (Bridgeport) has no movie theatre.

Dickinson operated the theater until 2010 when it was sold off to Showplex. Starplex Cinemas took over the theater in January 2013, and was taken over by AMC on December 16, 2015. It was one out of 30 Starplex locations to do so.
