I saw several movies (e.g., Superman) at the Cinema III. I worked at the Kmart to. The Plitt theater was next to Montgomery Wards in the Twin City Mall. I saw The Empire Strikes Back & Jaw 3D it was the most expensive theater in those days ($4.50)

I clearly remember the premiere of Soggy Bottom USA at the Eastgate theater w/

Hey Jim, thanks for the comment. I put an update on the Eastgate page. I worked at Cinema 3 in high school. Mostly in the booth… Cine mark close it like 10 years ago. It was mostly a second run house toward the end

Hey balkcall77, I just read this and thought I would respond…it’s a pretty old comment so not sure you will see it. I’m Jim Pope and worked for Jackie years ago at Eastgate Cinema. Your grandfather was there a lot, of course, but Jackie was my supervisor. I was a ticket taker and learned how to run the projectors from the guys there (I think Andy was one of them). Anyway, I think I was only there for a summer but really enjoyed your family! I’m actually going this weekend to visit in Monroe after many years away. I’ll drive by the old theatre…not sure what I’ll find now but at least I can relive some memories!

My grandfaher Jack Pope owned cinema III until the early 1990’s when he sold it to Cinemark…I don’t remember it being a $1 house but I could be wrong. It showed most of the lower drawing movies & those that the Cinema 10 chose not to show! It closed in the late 1990’s early 2000’s…It was a nice movie house but had gone down over the last several years!

Cinema III was in the Kmart shopping center when Kmart was on Louisville Ave.
