Once I saw a vintage photo of McAlester’s Forum Theater when it was featuring a silent picture entitled “The Awakening” which was distributed sometime around 1917. So this movie house was in operation prior to that date.
Shown in the link below is a rather morbid image of the Forum Theater with those horse drawn hearse parked out front. Don’t know whether or not this was a publicity gimmick, so I asked several old timers if there was ever a funeral parlor nearby to this theater, but nobody could recall.

McAlester Public Library has provided the correct address for the Forum Theatre, it was at 202 East Choctaw Avenue. A law firm now occupies this location.
On google maps at the top of this page, using the correct address of 202 E. Choctaw Ave., McAlester, OK 74501-5026 there is a fine image of the former Forum Theatre (now Marilynn’s Boutique). The look of the building has hardly changed through all these years. The V Theatre can also be seen three doors East of the Forum.
