The Fairfax theatre opened on June 26th, 1941. Grand opening ad posted.
I’m searching for some information about a Vaudeville show that performed at the theatre in the late on February 20, 1927. The show was called “Jungleland” which was a traveling contortionist show. If anyone could help out, that would be great. I have an article that I found online: View link
There are photos of the Fairfax in Boxoffice, February 21, 1942. The 555-seat house was designed in the Art Moderne style by architect Roy A. Benjamin.
This theatre was home to the “Fairfax Players” for many years after it closed as a movie house.
The 1950 edition of F.D.Y. lists the Ritz Theatre at 829 N. Davis Street, Jacksonville.
The Dignan St address is from the 1946 Jacksonville City directory. I have noticed in some of the directories that the business address is sometimes different than the site in which the theatre located. The city directory also lists two addresses for the Ritz: 829 N Davis St & 824 W State St.
Correction, the address given in 1950 for ‘that’ Fairfax Theatre is 4122 Herschel Street, Jacksonville, FL 32210
There is no listing for a Fairfax Theatre in the Film Daily Yearbook;1941 edition.
In the 1943 edition there is a Fairfax Theatre listed with 700 seats operated by Paramount through their subsidiary E.J. Sparks.
The 1950 edition of F.D.Y. lists a Fairfax Theatre with 555 seats. However the address is different from the one given in the headers above. It is located at 4122 Heschel Street, Jacksonville
Could there have been two different Fairfax Theatre’s operating in the city at seperate periods of time?
