July 31st, 1949 grand opening ad with picture in photo section.
Something is now built on the drive-in lot.
Pulling the screen tower down to be reused at another drive-in
Unfortunately it looks like the drive-in is still for sale for 1.5 million as of 3/14/2012:

Hopefully someone can save it, but at that price things aren’t looking too good…
There is a news report about the status of this drive-in at http://www.wlky.com/r-slideshow/28908282/detail.html?taf=lou
We have submitted an offer to National Amusements so we can buy the property and reopen the theatre, As of right now our offer is still pending but if it is accepted we will get our Remodeling crew out to the property and remodel the theatre so we can get the theatre open for the 2011 season, See you at the Movies! :)
Here are my pictures from November 2010. The property is in pretty good shape, except for some potholes in the driveway and the brush reclaiming the outer fringes of the lot.
You can bet a stinking Wal-Mart is there now.
Pretty big drive in and it lasted 60 years pretty cool.

Thank you so much for mentioning my site in your article!! It has really helped people find it.
Hi, Rosalind.
I’m happy to tell you that National Amusements' other remaining drive-in, the Miracle Twin DI in Burton, MI outside Flint will also open this year. Like yourself, I’m maintaining an individual web page devoted to that DI at View link which I admit is much more primitive compared to yours. I’ve posted a news story to the Cinema Treasures webmasters about the opening of both drive-ins giving you credit for the Kenwood DI info.

The Kenwood now has a website! http://www.geocities.com/kenwooddrivein
I’m still getting info and working all of the bugs out of it, and unfortunately it doesn’t have the bandwidth for pictures, but it shoud be completely up to date soon!
I really wish national amusements would list the Kenwood on their website!! They have the Kenwood Center twin cinemas in Ohio (which is closed, so I don’t know why they have it on there anyway.) but not the Kenwood drive-in :(
This theater is still owned by National Amusements. I believe the manager for the Kenwood is also the manager for the Showcase 16.
is this still owned by nat.amus.?
