The Sinbad Cinema was open from at least 1948 until it was closed due to damage caused by a grenade being let off inside the building in August 2003.

Plans have been proposed to build a new modern hotel and on the site. The new building will also include a new twelve-screen Sinbad Cinema multiplex which will have a seating capacity of 1,250.
