October 12th, 1961 grand opening ad as Capri in photo section.
I was in that theater as a little girl. I visited my great aunts that lived on Elm Street about 15 houses up on the left and walked there to the movie by myself at age 9 (back in 1960. I remember the inside and the popcorn. Those were the days when the movie theaters were safe and kids could walk to the movie and back for cartoons.
I am the Property Manager of The Capri Apartments which used to be The Rialto Theatre. The black embossed tin ceiling is in what is now the attic and I found the red velvet curtains up there too… but they were decaying. I also found the rolls of carpet that ran between the aisles. The correct address now is 400 Main Street, East Rochester, NY. As far as I know Main Street is just Main Street…. not South or North. Vicki

Old poster for Children of Divorce, starring Clara Bow, at the Rialto in 1927.
It’s East Rochester. I made a mistake when I entered the information. The location should be corrected accordingly.
From the information posted I would say East Rochester. Shouldn’t the person that added this theatre know the location.
It’s interesting that the conversion picture is dated 1960, but the sign by the front door refers to an adult theater. I didn’t know there were any strictly adult theaters in 1960.
Listed in the Film Daily Yearbook;1950 edition as being located at South Main Street, East Rochester, NY, with a seating capacity given as 1,020. It must be in either the #300 or #400 blocks of South Main Street.
Here are some early photos as well as a view of the Rialto at the time of the conversion to the Capri in 1960:
