Are you sure about that? It’s identical to every other Showcase Cinema of the era.
This was never a Loews. You must be confused by the AMC/Loews Stonybook 17 in Long Island NY
I was working in Louisville when Loews opened the theatre. It was after Loews bought USA Cinemas. National bought Loews/USA theatres after there was a legal threat of anti trust in Louisville and Cincinnati since National dominated market by having exclusive runs of most movies in each market.
National bought the Cincinnati and Louisville theatres. Today it was announced that Cinemark sold the theatre to Carmike. Cinemark had just picked up the theatre in the Rave Cinema buy.
May 19th, 1989 grand opening ad as Loews Stonybrook 10. The ad says Easy to Enter, Easy to Exit (in reference to the traffic jams coming out of the Showcase cinamas on Bardstown Rd.)
Well I’ll be…
Don’t know what it was like back in 1989, but getting out on Hurstbourne now is no picnic.
May 28th, 1999 grand opening ad as Showcase Stonybrook in photo section. Scott Neff, check out the Showcase Cinemas page for more goodies there.
Now AMC Stonybrook 20. It took awhile, but this theatre is finally reunited with the rest of the former Lowes Theatres.
Originally Opened As A 10-Screener Called The Loews Stony Brook 10.
