The City Theatre was opened November 1926. By 1939 it had been renamed Strand Theatre. It was still open as the Strand Theatre in 1956, but had closed by 1957. Later used as a live venue renamed named Ellis Theatre. By 2025 it was open and under renovation as a live music venue.

Opened as the City Theatre in November of 1926. Converted to sound in March of 1930.

I think the name chronology is wrong. The ‘Ellis’ sign is clearly very old, and this is one of several Ellis theaters in Mississippi. It must have been called Ellis before it closed as a cinema.
