I think the name chronology is wrong. The ‘Ellis’ sign is clearly very old, and this is one of several Ellis theaters in Mississippi. It must have been called Ellis before it closed as a cinema.

Currently owned by the Philadelphia Neshoba County Arts Council and operated as the “Congress of Country Music” Here is a link to the organization’s theater restoration web page:

Opened as the City Theatre in November of 1926. Converted to sound in March of 1930.
