The Strand Theater was opened in 1925 and was designed by architect Charles H. Abramowitz. It sustained extensive damage in a 1989 hurricane and was demolished shortly thereafter.

I remember going to the Strand on weekends in the 70’s to watch horror double features. Great memories and fun. My father, who is now 82, was an usher there when he was a teenager.
The photo above is great. However, the theater is on the other side of the street.
Almost every Saturday during the 1960’s I went to the Strand. We saw 3 cartoons, one “scary” movie" and some B-rated film. So much fun!! All kids. often boardering on chaos. I feel sorry for the ushers' job to tell us all to be quiet and stop throwing popcorn at each other!!!
