Due to declining business?
More like Miranda’s death in 1987 and Pussycat/Walnut Properties folding shortly after! I live in the San Francisco bay area chock full Pussycats in the 70s and 80s including 2 in Oakland alone. When Vincent died, one by one they all closed. It was not because of video or DVD. See Mann Theaters and Ted Mann for more information…
Wide screen DOLBY porn! Would have taken that in just to see it!
This opened on February 20th, 1969 with “They came to Rob Las Vegas”
April 1982 photo added, photo credit American Classic Images. (website wouldn’t link)
I remember that theater too. It wasn’t very big and I remember seeing the movie “Hell In The Pacific” (1968) with Lee Marvin. Not to long after that the theater turned into a xxx rated joint.
Yep… And it’s the same one referred to as “Five Star” here. The original poster has the wrong name for it. :–)
This was the FOUR Star Theater. ;–)
My family and I saw the Clint Eastwood trilogy, “Fistful of Dollars,” “For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” back in about ‘69 or '70. My ex husband and I visited a couple of times after it changed 'format.’ It was the only adult theater that wasn’t a ‘mini’… It was full size, full-screen, and attracted good-size crowds – lots of Japanese businessmen traveling along and with their wives/female partners.
This was owned by David Friedman, who had co-founded the Pussycat theater chain and who built this theater from scratch as an adult movie house after he had sold his interest in Pussycat theaters to Vince Miranda. It closed sometime in the early 1990’s, likely due to declining business.
