The air-conditioned Golden City Theatre was situated in the Wanchai district on Hong Kong Island.

It opened to business on 22nd December, 1951 with Danny Kaye’s “Riviera”. It showed selected English language and Chinese dialect films until its closure on 26th January, 1958.

The auditorium was on the ground floor, and there was a pool hall on the first floor of the theatre building.

A wall of the theatre building collapsed and a construction worker was injured during demolition on 12th February, 1958.

A broadcasting building was built on the site of the theatre.
