This theater has been owned by AMC for almost a year now
Wasn’t Berlin erected WITH stadium seating (National Amusements)? Also, pursuant to current operator, Starplex, it is my professional opinion that the utilization of the former traditional marquee as simply a generic sign was a bad move. With the technology available today, and competitive pricing, I would’ve opted to transform the signage into a digital marquee.
As of today 5/8/14 this theater is now operated by Starplex Cinemas, and it appears that they are now all digital. I am not sure if Starplex retrofitted the auditoriums to be stadium seats like they did in Berlin, but unless they make some significant improvements, it may be difficult for this location to make a comeback since all the previous owners left it in such a state of disrepair. Starplex did a great turn around in Berlin, which was practically falling down when they bought it, so anything is possible.
Starplex did wonders to their NJ theaters
Rumors are Starplex is taking it over
This place has been on it’s final legs for a few years now. The only reason it still chugs along is because they charge discount prices. With 9 of the 12 screens still running 35mm, once 35mm stops being available (supposedly it’s going to happen before next summer) I doubt Cinemark will invest the money to uograde. This theater can’t sustain a higher ticket price, the lobby had tumbleweeds when they last tried that. I think next summer might be this theaters last before Cinemark shutters it for good.
From MYRECORDJOURNAL.COM
An assistant manager at the theater referred all questions to Cinemark’s corporate communications department, which has not returned repeated requests for comment.
‘Nuff said.
FROM WIKIPEDIA: As of November 2012, Cinemark has entered into an agreement to purchase 32 Rave Cinema locations for $240 million. The sale is subject to antitrust approval. Only 2 locations will remain under the Rave Cinemas umbrella after the Cinemark sale is complete, however there much speculation within the industry that these remaining 2 locations will either be sold or shuttered. MORE TO COME ………….
Cinemark does own this one also, but John’s right, this one’s got some rare features to it. One of them is that it is not fully converted to digital, Rave was trying to but sold it to Cinemark before they finished. The other thing is they own the land that the theater is on, unlike most of the theaters Cinemark got from Rave, this one can be sold to anyone, whether it be kept up as a theater or just sold for the land.
Cinemark may not have purchased it, but they are operating it for the time being.
Not sure if this is correct but it appears from movie tickets.com it’s a rare Rave that never converted to digital and apparently is showing Happy Feet 2 in Technocolor (film-based) 3D.
this place is not customer friendly i tried using the phone no. to find a movie between all the advertising and push 2 for this 3 for that it took 20 minutes to find the movie very frustrating give me the old school theatre any day!!!

One of the last Showcases in the area with conventional seating. The rest either upgraded or closed.
Opened in 1993. And that’s MERIDEN, not Meridan.
