News About This Theater
- Mar 7, 2007 — Reopened: Ritz Theatre
The Palace Theatre opened in 1928 and was operated by Affiliated Theaters Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. from 1950.
It was closed in 1983 “for renovations” that never happened. It was featured in Michael Putnam’s book “Silent Screens” in a 1985 night-time photo. But it was cleaned and renovated by a new owner, renamed the Ritz Cinema, and reopened on January 26, 2007 with Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky Balboa”. It was closed on September 15, 2024.

I’m not sure why it was necessary to vandalize the stone nameplate (or to paint the brick that ugly reddish brown), but it originally said ‘Kresler’. Frank Kresler was a local businessman who constructed this building.
The recent opening of the Palace Theatre at Rensselaer, Indiana, was briefly noted in the January 13, 1929 issue of Film Daily.
Closed on September 15th, 2024, according to its Facebook page.
