Closed on February 16, 1969 with the triple feature of “Coogan’s Bluff”, “Journey To Shiloh”, and “Counterfeit Killer”. All of its equipment was then placed on sale the following week.
The drive-in appears intact and operational in a 1960 and 1963 aerial.
However, by 1971 the screen was gone and a new building appears on the northeast corner of the property. By 1980, a go-kart track had been constructed on the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining.
Placed its first ad on August 17th, 1948 and held its official opening on September 5th, 1948. Grand opening ad posted.
Boxoffice, Feb. 8, 1960: “Carlton J. Carter has taken over operation of the local Ribault and Air Base drive-ins, which have been operated for the past several months by Irving Sochin. The Air Base shortly will be leased to Ernie Nolan, former manager of the Fernandina drive-in, Carter stated.”
This drive-in is now U-Haul.
The address is now 8370 Roosevelt Blvd. Jacksonville Florida 32244.
Went there. The drive way and original fence line is still there but now is a lumber company.
U.S. 17 & Baracoa St, Jacksonville, FL 32244
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which was on the west side of US 17.
