Opened as the Penn Hills Theatre in October of 1966. Cinemmette Corporation Circuit ran the theatre for a period. Cinema World Circuit closed the Theatre in August of 1991. It reopened as the Penn Hills Cinemas in 1992 closing in 1993.
Under new operator David Bevilacqua, it reopened on December 14, 1995 as the Cinematropolis as a sub-run discount house. It closed October 12, 2000.
The venue reopened under the name of Penn Hills Cinemas on September 27, 2002 to screen both American and Indian films. The cinema plays primarily American films continuing past its 50th Anniversary in 2016.
It uses https://www.facebook.com/PennHillsCinemas/ as its online address.
Short article about the theater which is definately still open: http://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/Pittsburgh-Magazine/February-2017/Pittsburgh-Flicks-and-Nightlife-in-February/?platform=hootsuite

I worked here from 1997 – 2000 when it closed as “Cinematropolis”. It amuses me how much everything still looks like it did 13 years ago.
The listed Official Website is now a dead link. This now appears to be the official website that at least implies that it is now under the same management as the Oaks Theater: http://www.theoakstheater.com/penn_hills_cinemas.html
I lived in Penn Hills, right off of Rodi Rd.. I never had any trouble and used to walk all night everywhere,,I love Penn Hills, Met the love of my life at that theatre…There is not a day goes by I don’t think about her, even after all these years…..
Penn Hills does get a bad rap. There are plenty of good areas in Penn Hills.
I work there now. We are still here. We’re doing what we can but times are tough. Really though the only thing I would say that needs done more than anything else is a seat upgrade. As far as the area, Penn Hills gets a bad rap but I am here open to close pretty much all the time and there has never been an instance of violence here while the Waterfront has its regular physical altercations and the occasional shooting but gets nothing but praise. It’s still a nice theater. Even if I didn’t work here, living in the Penn Hills, I would come here. It’s close, convenient, affordable, the picture and sound are good. If anyone has any other questions about the place go ahead and ask them and I will check back and try to get back to you. Norelco. Do you have any pictures?
Cinnemette had it also, when I worked there it was a single screem theatre, we twined it in 82 I had no idea it was a 4 plex. Was a nice theatre.
It was once under Cinema World. Is it now independent?
Has anybody been to this theatre? What’s it like and in what kind of area is it in?
