This opened in December, 1999 by Eastern Federal Theatres. It replaced the older Royal Park cinemas that opened in the early 1970’s with 2 cinemas and expanded to 4 cinemas by 1980
Regal is renovating the lobby and removing murals installed when the theater was operated by Eastern Federal: http://www.floridastars.org/royalpark.html
And according to a back issue of The Gainesville Sun, this theater’s very first movie was American Beauty.
By the way, that same newspaper also said that this place was originally set to open on November 19th of 1999. But, of course, said opening didn’t happen until about a month later.
