This theatre appears to be closed for good as they are not answering their Facebook page.
YEP, they are still open, have a FACEBOK page, but there is more here than on the facebook page they have..
According to their recording on the phone line they are open and showing current first run attractions.
Closed down? no showtimes anywhere.
I see admission is now $5.oo a seat, not bad for first run.
June 8 1971 now showing “THE ITALIAN JOB”.
When they twinned they really ruined it .Surprized it hasn’t been tripled since it is thirty miles from Augusta. I do hear they have a lot of trouble there. And THomson is a small town,Admission is pretty cheap so I guess that encourages the low life to show up. I have Friends there that will not go there,It is a pity.
Just a few Old movies that Played the Martin before they Twinned it.
4-21-78 “PIPE DREAMS” and the X rated Late Show,“FANTA-SEX” at 10;30pm.
June 13 1971 Richard Burton in “THE VILLIAN”
July 15 1971 Clint Eastwood in “THE BEGUILED”
Hope to have picture on here soon showing the Marquee!!!
One of the good things about the past was managers that could actually call a booker and book a feature.the Martin Theatre in Thomson,Georgia had a TARZAN SPECTACULAR on Sept. 7, 1961. The Three movies were:
“TARZAN"S GREAT ADVENTURE”
“TARZAN AND THE SHE DEVIL”
and “TARZAN’S HIDDEN JUNGLE” They were played on a saturday when many small town theatres would book such features, while mom shopped.
Now showing at the Thomson Twin, “NEW LIFE” 2 film cans ,6 2000 feet reels.Booking Sheet. 4-7-88.
Now playing at Thomson twin a movie they picked up from Regency 8 in Augusta, “PRINCESS BRIDE” 2 film cans,6 2000 feet reels.
I read where Thomson had a classic car day there with classic cars line down main street in front of the Theatre. A smart theatre manager would have had a tie in ,and show a classic movie with a car as the main story line, but no they were playing regular features. No one thinks of promotions much any more.
No dates, but these two movies are playing. “TRAINING DAY” and “GLITTER”. They don’t believe in putting one sheets out.Looking at the picture i took it looks closed from the road.
JUNE 9 1972 A very hot late show.Amazing the cops didn’t raid it.
DAGMAR’S HOT PANTS Adults only.starts at 10:30pm.
June 25 1972 Now showing X,Y,and ZEE. Late show on weekend was Adults Only LOVE AND MONEY.
July 2 1972 BILLY JACK and the weekend late show is WILBUR AND THE BABY FACTORY.Adults Only.
SEPT. 10 1971 THE MARTIN THEATRE is playing
GEORGE PEPPARD in THE EXECUTIONER rated GP , They ran a late show at 10 pm.Pretty early for a late show, but it is a small town.
What few times i drive by the Martin it use to bug me in one one sheet frame they have written in marker all Seats $5.00. I think a one sheet from the movie playing should be in that frame.Even though today’s one sheets are smaller than what we use to get. Tacky.
The Martin Theatre chain was located in Columbus.Ga. Home of the horrible CAR-MIKE CINEMAS. IN 1956, MARTIN THEATRES had theatres in Georgia close to 20 cities with several screens in some of these towns. They had theatres in Alabama and Florida.
