Final night of operation, according to the listings in the Pittsburgh papers, was September 16, 1968
September 9th, 1949 grand opening ad as well as the aerial photo can be found in the photo section.
Great drive in. But you had to watch where you parked. In 1959 I had a new Chevy convertible and if you were near bridges you would get stuff dumped on you.
Great opening ad Mike Rivest!
It held 500 cars and was owned by G.Rubin.
Fished in the lake before it was drained and filled in for the drive-in. The drive-in was unique due to the arched that held up a railroad overpass. On some nights the trains would rumble over the movie sounds. The last movie I saw there was “The Harder they fall” with Humphrey Bogart.
The grand opening ad is at View link (you may have to drag the page to bring the ad in view.) and http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/patsil3
The Silver Lake Drive-In had a car capacity of 550 cars.
