Although this location technically has 18 screens, when Cinemark closed the theater for Covid, they gutted all of the equipment. There are currently 6 screens operating under GQT. From what I’ve read the plans are to purchase equipment and open more screens as demand dictates.
Technically, Cinemark’s name for this theatre was the Cinemark Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills and IMAX. Cinemark closed it virtually all of the then-open Cinemark theatres beginning on March 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The circuit opted out of its lease at its half-way mark scheduled for June 30, 2020. It was one of many theatres whose leasing contract reached a benchmark during COVID-19 and led to permanent closure by its operator making its final day of operation March 16, 2020.
Dying mall in a lower middle class area plus shrinking movie-going audience overall plus expiring lease. Damn shame. Beautiful place to see a movie.
July 14th, 2005 grand opening ad in photo section.
The architect of record for the Cinemark 18 at Pittsburgh Mills is Kip E. Daniel of The Beck Group.
Renewing link.
The official name of this 18-screen megaplex seems to be Cinemark 18 at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills. Can you imagine anyone chewing over that while trying to explain where they’re seeing something?
The theaters are in what seems to be the largest building in the sprawling, multi-building mall. Entry is from the interior of the mall.
It opened July 14, 2005, with 17 regular stadium-seating screens and a 349-seat IMAX auditorium.
The total capacity is 3,695. There are 237 in No. 1 and 18, 140 in 7 and 12, 137 in 2 and 17, 291 in 8 and 11, 188 in No. 10 and 156 in 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
