Set to close sometime in October. AMC Southlake is now the sole 24 screen location in Georgia.

Murals that are at this location:

  • 2, 7 - Hollywood
  • 6 - Corvette
  • 10 - Hot Air Balloons
  • 11 - Diner
  • 12 - Arabian Village
  • 13 - Egypt
  • 14 - Cadillac
  • 15 - Taj Mahal
  • 18, 23 - W.C. Fields
  • 19 - Beach Cottage
  • 20 - Lighthouse

Weird as it may seem, 1 & 24 don’t have any murals whatsoever, even though they’re two of the largest auditoriums at the theater. And 5 doesn’t appear to have a mural for reasons unknown.

Doonyman – Regal moved in in May of 1999. Their first public screening was the midnight pre-open of Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. I’m not certain when they actually began construction.

Lots of neon but not as much as the Regal 27 in Nashville.

I would agree. Unfortunately, it is the nicest theater within 20 minutes of here, so I go there a lot. And the projection is usually good to great, unlike at the other theaters around where I live.

An ugly and unmemorable place to see movies with fairly indifferent staff.

Well, DOONYMAN we know she shut the doors in 1998 with “Deep Impact."
Seems like the 24 has been there a good, long time to me. I would guess it likely had to be going under construction by 2000. I dated a gal that lived near there around 2002 or ‘03. I am sure it was already giving off the neon glow by then.

Maybe someone else has a better memory, than me!

To me, this place was and always will be “The Big Purple Monster” because of the bizarre use of neon all over the facade.

Does anyone know when Regal moved in and built this place on top of the old drive-in?

This mega-monster sits on sacred ground for me. Saw many a movie at this classic drive-in.

One B-movie horrorfest marathon, included “The Toolbox Murders” & “Mansion Of The Doomed.” Circa early/mid 80’s IIRC.

I still see movies at the 24, but it’s not “fun.” Sometimes even dangerous.

Two years ago, there was a gang related incident in the parking lot, that resulted in one death, and several wounded. I actually heard the slugs whizzing by, and took cover behind my vehicle, while securing my Glock from my trunk.

A re-work of “The Hills Have Eyes”, isn’t worth getting shot over…

This may be a good place to see a movie but the last time I went there the person at the consession stand was extremely rude.
The person ahead of me in line told me to go ahead. The consession person refused to wait on me saying I broke in line. Needless to say I complained to the manager, and received a refund and have not been back since. I also have no plans to ever go there again.

Back when Regal bought out Storey, I heard that one of the primary reasons that they bought them was for the drive-in site to build this on. There is really not much left of the old Storey chain now, such a shame.
