Duncan is surrounded by cattle ranch spreads, so Trail Theatre styling of Southwestern-Art-Deco was quite appropriate. The Trail Theatre was opened in the early-1940’s and closed on June 16, 1949.

The Trail was probably named for the Chisholm Trail which ran through Duncan. The Chisholm Trail was used to move cattle from Texas to the rail head in Kansas in the 1800s and many local businesses had “Trail” in their name — Such as the Chisholm Trail Hotel.
The Trail Theater was small and showed mainly cowboy movies. I believe it was closed by 1950 and the building was reused for another business.
The Trail opened between 1942 and 1946. It was located at 806 West Main Street in Duncan. It closed about 1950. Abbie’s women’s wear moved to the location in 1951.
Western star Monte Hale graced the Trail on May 28, 1948 performing on his guitar and telling stories. It appears that the last roundup for the Trail was June 16, 1949
