The Del Rio Theatre was opened on February 4, 1931 with George Bancroft in “Scandal Sheet”. A movie palace in miniature, many clever architectural details came together in the Del Rio Theatre design to create a "storybook" cinema. A multi-colour marquee, pinwheel neon, and tracer lighting put theatre goers in a gay carnival mood when approaching the festive Del Rio. It was closed on May 3, 1959 with George Montgomery in “The Toughest Gun in Tombstone” & Marie Windsor in “Island Women”. Since demolished, apart from the stage house and dressing rooms, a bank is now on the site.

Looks as though the Del Rio was designed with “forced perspective” in order to make it appear much larger than it actually was.
The Del Rio Theatre launched with George Bancroft in “Scandal Sheet” on February 4, 1931. The architectural sketch by E.M. Rich is in photos. The Del Rio closed with a double-feature of “Toughest Gun in Tombstone” and “Island Women.”
