The Rex Theatre was opened October 19, 1928 with Lew Cody in “Beau Broadway” plus vaudeville on the stage. It was renamed Rapid Theatre on November 10, 1960 when it reopened with Charlton Heston in “Ben Hur”. This theatre was part of the Black Hills Amusement chain in the early-1970’s. It was closed January 30, 1986 with “Iron Eagle”.

A book about Rapid City architecture says that the Rex Theatre was built in 1928.
Very nice looking theatre.Thanks for the pictures.
Final show was “Iron Eagle” on January 30, 1986 at end of lease. The theatre was demolished for parking.
This reopened on November 10th, 1960 as Rapid with “Ben Hur”. Both grand opening ads in the photo section.
