Opened as the Queen Theatre on March 5, 1915. On May 30, 1924 it was renamed Criterion Theatre, screening J. Warren Kerrigan in “Thundering Dawn”. On October 11, 1926 it reopened as the Grand Theatre with Constance Talmadge in “The Dutchess of Buffalo”. It had been equipped with a Wurlitzer theatre organ. Contrary to what the name suggests, there was nothing “Grand” about this nickel and dime cinema. Just a place to relax and kill a couple of hours, this small town theatre offered film entertainment at low ticket prices, with no frills. The Grand Theatre was closed in 1937. It was rebuilt and reopened as the Okla Theatre November 19, 1945. In the 1950’s it was sold to Video Independent Theatres and closed on January 15, 1955.

Following closure it was converted into a Montgomery Ward store. In recent years it has been occupied by McIntyre Insurance Agency.

Following information comes courtesy of roadesideoklahome link;
“The Okla Theater cycled through two names, Criterion and Queen, before becoming the Grand Theater. The Grand Theater was sold in the 1940s to Volney Hamm and reopened under the name of Okla. The Okla Theater operated for approximately ten years before it was sold to Video Independent. Video Independent closed and dismantled the theater. A Montgomery Ward operated on the location for some time."

A photo of Frederick, Oklahoma’s Grand Avenue in the 1960s shows the Montgomery Ward catalog store, which occupied the Oklahoma Theatre’s old building, in the structure that is still standing today at 115 W. Grand Avenue. The building now houses an insurance company’s office.
