rleather, don’t you mean “Farrells Ice Cream Parlor”?
Used to go to this theatre a lot. 4 screens in one theatre, mind-blowing! Everyone ended up at Fenton’s for ice cream down the strip mall after the films.
Saw Rocky Horror on opening weekend and it was dead, no crowd (and no dancing yet). Saw Piranha and the girl in the booth warned me “no refunds”. Apparently everyone was complaining. Saw Sorcerer with like 2 other people in there. I remember Young Frankenstein playing here for months and we went back 3 or 4 times that winter. Saw Last Temptation of Christ and there were picketeers outside. Also used to have studio previews. Saw Tunnelvision snuck, with mucky-mucks in the lobby. Groove Tube, Kentucky Fried Movie, Animal House all played here. Very much a college crowd place (UCSD nearby).
dcubs, did aliens and alien 3 play here? I know future alien movies have played in this theatre’s successor.
Worked this theater from 1980 to 90’s. Dolby was installed for “Tron” in 2 theaters, 3 and 4 later had UltraStereo installed. When I started it was reel to reel on 6000 foot reels. Some projectionist had fun pulling the diode pins out of the automation and handing them to a new operator. I had the chance to map the pin locations before that happened to me. I was there during the platter, 3D Screen, and new snack bar installs.
I loved these theatres and they were always touting that their films were presented in Dolby Stereo. I recall seeing ALIEN here opening weekend.
The Fashion Valley 1-2-3-4 opened the week of June 3, 1970. The opening films were: 1) Funny Girl 2) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 3) Loving 4) Cactus Flower
