The Moon Lit Drive-In was opened by July 1954 when it was operated by Exhibitors Service Co. This drive-in predated all the theaters in Conyers and might have still been open when the Salem Gate Shopping Center opened.

Hi, Mike:
My father and uncle owned Woodall Theatres. Did you work with them at the Moonlit? Love hearing stories from the theater days. It was quite a fun way to grow up.
Best,
Laura (Woodall) Rose
The approximate location of this drive in now Edwards Drive and Iris Drive SE. The overgrown area just to west of Edwards was where the theater was located.
Just saw this drive in on an episode of “In the Heat of the Night”. So I had to search and see if it would come up. They filmed scenes by the sign and back around the snack bar building trying to capture a hit man. Episode was filmed in 1990 or 1991. The sign had faded quite a bit since the photo on this site. Don’t know if the sign or anything is left nowadays or not.
Listings for this drive-in started to appear in The Atlanta Constitution from July 1954 onwards. It may have been opened before, but someone will have to check the Conyers newspapers.
Address Dakota Fanning(and her sister Elle Fanning) were born in Conyers, Georgia. They could gone to this drive-in theatre!!?
I do believe this drive-in was gone before the Fanning sisters were born. Perhaps Holly Hunter, another Conyers native may have seen movies here.
