This theater had one of the last self-serve concession stands in the world. The Carmike Cinema 6 was closed in August 2011.

Wow, the last self-serve, what a piece of history will be lost. Actually, if you go to the State and sneek by the employee you can serve yourself popcorn, but they don’t like that much. And you can pick out with your own two hands any bottle of coke product from the coolers. Not only that, but on the nights they have coffee and tea you can pour and make that yourself too. Self-serve is no reason to keep the 6 around, especially once Fraser center takes the students off the M route and back downtown.
Ok so the self-serve concession isn’t the main selling point. Rather, it’s that this place is now a discount theatre. Tickets are $1 for all shows… a very appealing form of entertainment for larger families, those on a budget, or just about anyone who enjoys movies in the theatre without the $7-9 price tag.
Ummm — Just about every Century Theatre built has a self serve snack bar.
At any rate — the theatre closed in August of 2011.
The Cinema 6 was the last of the Carmike owned theatres in State College. It became a discount theater showing second run films, and charging only $1 for admission.
Sadly, this theater closed in August 2011.
I remembered seeing it just before it opened at about the same time Carmike bought out a whole bunch of Cinemaworld theaters (which included The Movies, The State and The Cinema 5). It took over an old retail store location. I always thought it was a bit out of the way and even when new really didn’t have any character like the downtown theaters. I am trying to remember if I ever went to a movie there and I can’t come up with anything.

It was originally named Cinema World State College 6 when it opened on September 28, 1991. It changed its name to just Cinema World 6 a couple of years later.
Now a Big Lots store. Current use should be Retail.
