Added photos of all 12 auditoriums. In the description of each auditorium photo, I’ve noted the most centered seat. I’ve also added projector info for a few auditoriums on the stadium side.
Due to the original theatre’s layout they utilized periscope projection for some of the auditoriums (i.e. the image was projected onto a mirror, which reflected to a second mirror, and then to the screen). They had changed to a traditional setup by the time I spent some time at the theatre, but the periscopes remained in a former projection booth that had been converted into a meeting room.
Due to the addition of recliners, the total capacity went down to 952. The original side (theaters 1-6) has capacities of 101, 98, 58, 58 again, 98 again, and 101 again (love the consistency!). The stadium side (theaters 7-12) has capacities of 74, 66, 60, 132, 26, and 80.
according to AMC’s website, this theater now has reserved seating and recliners.
“The Rocketeer” was presented here in 35mm Dolby Stereo beginning on Friday June 21, 1991.
1984 and 1997 grand opening ads in photo section.
that arcade was great
Thanks Edward.
Actually, the space now occupied by the “newer” half of the complex was other shops and, for a wonderful time from the late 1970s to mid 1980s, an arcade. The Marie Callender’s was farther down at one of the ends of the shopping center, and is currently a Kamal Palace Cuisine of India restaurant.
The original grand opening was held on the weekend of 8/17/84. Among the opening giveaway items and prizes was a raffle for a 14' Hobie Cat sailboat. The theatre’s opening films were: Tightrope, Cloak & Dagger, Sam’s Son, Sheena, Karate Kid, Woman in Red, and a midnight showing of Woodstock.
